The Terrorist’s Reflection

The GP lesson for 0408 & 1508 over 16 & 17 Sep was quite a disaster! I think everyone would be labelling me a terrorist by now.

It’s actually just the song. On hindsight, I guess that was a bad song to pick. It is supposed to be black humour, but I guess it didn’t work without the music video. All of you looked so terrorised! I have a feeling everyone thinks I’m cursing them! NoOoOoOooo…

Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds will be a better choice, but there’s always that possible reference to drugs for those who hate reggae music.

Maybe Jason Mraz’s version would have removed that layer of interpretation. He’s white, but he’s doing reggae.

Jonas Brothers seem like they have a lot of songs… Poor Unfortunate Souls?

I admit that in the past I’ve been a ‘lil nasty (really?)
They weren’t kidding when they call me kinda strange (yeah I’m schizo!)

Jesse McCartney’s Leaving would also have been a better choice: Don’t stress, don’t stress, don’t stress. When you need answers during exams, turn to the left, to the left.

They will then send you to the Rehab and you can’t say “no no no” like Amy Winehouse.

I guess Death Cab For Cutie puts into perspective how warped thoughts can be. Much like fiction. Jonas Brothers, Jesse McCartney, Amy Winehouse…more or less the same.

Except for Bob Marley.

Thanks and All the Best!

The gifts from my classes and ex-student

The gifts from my classes and ex-student

(I know this has been long, but…)

Thanks, 1508, for the Gatsby and ‘voyeur’ shot; 0408, the graffiti memo board; and 2208, for the new title! The card by a “first-three-months” student was also a pleasant surprise.

Wish all of you the best in the Promo! And see you up in J2 in a few months’ time.

Goodness Graciousness!

blog-post-1498

This is a piece of random rantings over two news articles (or more)…

(Any typos in the attached document belongs to ST.)

“Good toilets, bad habits” (in ST Sep 5, 2008)

“Exasperating: Shot putter Zhang Guirong’s slump leads to athletes chief pulling the plug” (in ST Sep 5, 2008)

*

It wasn’t so long ago when I last mentioned in class that the phrase “Singapore is a first world country” is dubious.

On political correctness, it is dubious or erroneous because “first world” and “third world” are Communistic ideals. It creates the “them” versus “us” mentality, which is why phrases like “developed nations” and “developing nations” are coined. I stand to be corrected if we do not display such a mentality.

It takes time for people to change, and such disgusting habits affect both the rich and the poor, the first world people in Singapore (the Whites) and the third world people in Singapore (the non-Whites), the first class residents (the Gong Li’s) and the third class residents (the Coolies).

And of course, “second class” citizens like you and I (well, maybe not you, nor I) are included.

Stop that thought! I have not been peeping. One can tell from the trail of evidence left behind. It is of course easier to see who had not been washing hands after using the toilet.

I can’t remember if I said this before, but Dolly the Sheep didn’t live for long. Accelerated development of any kind has adverse effects on the subject.

If anyone want to change the mindset of people, try killing off neocolonialism first. Don’t lie and say it doesn’t exist. Products. Accents. Customers.

Of course, perhaps Japan tried to do that, but its approach was wrong although the intention was good. That was WWII. I stand to be corrected again, by the way.

And it doesn’t help that some foreign talents are making us look like fools. That shot put thrown had landed short on our own foot. Don’t forget Agu Casmir who was so compassionately brought back to the soccer squad after fleeing Singapore for some other countries.

I guess I’m still thinking about what our silver-medal Olympians said before their gold-medal match: it echoes what Loh says here, “Which athlete gives excuses before a competition and says she will do badly?”

I guess Loh isn’t a big fan of table-tennis.

(I’m taking a swipe at everyone here!)

It isn’t true that all foreign talents are a nuisance. This was the case recently when a particular estate in Singapore took up arms (I think they just raised their arms in veto) against having a foreign workers’ dormitory in their territory. I think their concern is with the potential of them causing trouble in the neighbourhood.

They may have a point if they accept these foreign talents after a comprehensive programme for after-work hours is implemented for the workers.

Otherwise, the second reason for their objection stands: that they are concerned about their property prices. CAPITALISTS.

Where’s the love, man. Jurong West is cheap. If you propose they move over here, you are discriminating against these labourers. They deserve better. I don’t mind them here in my estate. I’m no capitalist. I’m a lower-case.

Anyway I never saw a problem with them here for so many years that I’ve been here. They are friendly people who are better pedestrians than most of us. They speak better English than some of us. They are fitter than most of us and wouldn’t need a two-hour jail for a kidney offence like one (or two) of us. As I was driving home today, I saw them happily playing their cricket even though the police was watching them–I mean, I seriously hate it when police stares at my red plate red car in broad-day light–but they are cool about it.

Of course, they sometimes get drunk and all, but try heading over to Clarke Quay and tell me if you don’t smell puke or pee. I had to jump like Super Mario all the way up to the carpark at Liang Court recently when I went there to catch up with friends (I did not drink, by the way. Drink and drive makes you a Bloody Mary.) All because of the stairwell’s pee pool. More like a cascading waterfall.

It’d be fun to have a Clarke Quay in your very own neighbourhood!

I guess the solution we all need is to be toilet-trained. We need a new national campaign.

Pirates of the Cabinet

Not so sure where the original source is, but I claim it mine. It has to be this ironic.

Just for laughs

In retrospect, this totally reminds me of the Prep Feedback lecture (Sep 2)…
